Welcome to the home of the Patterdale Terrier

Welcome to True Terrier Kennel, home of the Patterdale Terrier, a medium-sized dog that is 11.5 inches to 12.5 inches high at the shoulder, generally weighing 14 to 16 pounds, with a smooth to slightly broken coat.
If you are interested in the Patterdale Terrier and are researching the breed it will not be long before the name Brian Nuttall will appear before your eyes.
While he is not the founder of the breed, nor is he the only breeder of these high quality terriers, there are many top of the line terriermen in the U.K. as there are here in the United States.
A number of these terrier men breed their own dogs -- some keep a few and breed to other good working dogs, and some men breed a strain relatively pure, with just a dash of fresh blood to keep the strain sound.
Brian Nuttall has more than 50 years of experience working and maintaining this breed. His grandfather was a gamekeeper and bred working terriers. Brian's own strain of terrier started with dogs from his grandfather, and later -- as with many of the great strains -- some of the legendary Breay Buck strain was introduced. Cyril Breay and Franck Buck have had some of the biggest impact on the modern Patterdale Terrier.
Brian Nuttall has approximately 22 entered terriers in his kennel. Currently, 12 to 14 of them are out on loan to different fox hound packs for the season, since the terrier is used to enable the extraction of the fox. These dogs work with the Belvoir, the East Devon, the Pembroke and Camarthenshire, the Eskdale & Ennerdale, with two or three gamekeepers working them.
You should expect pups bred from such terriers to be of high quality, as I do.
